Women Manifesto to demonstrate against President’s few women appointment
Women Manifesto in conjunction with various organizations has organized demonstrations against low number or no women in many newly appointed boards.
In an interview with radio Islam, Margret Kathewera Banda of Women Manifesto said the demonstrations will take place in 3 cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
Kathewera Banda said the president’s failure to appoint a reasonable number of women in the boards is a breach of Malawi Constitution and gender equality act among others.
“It is shocking that despite various efforts and commitments made the president is still neglecting,” Kathewera Banda
Kathewera Banda added if the president fails to consider their grievances they will seek a legal redress.
One of the the members of Women Manifesto Movement Babra Banda rejected her appointment of board member saying was against silencing activists.
The youth activist Charles Kajoloweka whose group Youth and Society YAS is one of the members of the movement also resigned from the board of National Youth Council of Malawi
