Vice President, Former Minister appear in Court
Vice President Saulos Chilima and Former Minister of Homeland Security Cecilia Chazama appeared in Blantyre and Lilongwe courts respectively this week
Chilima is answering a corruption charge while Chazama of forcing immigration official to recruit some people as immigration assistants
The Court granted Chilima’s wish to vary some of his bail conditions such as surrendering his passport to the President
Blantyre Magistrate Court heard from Dastan Manda the state witness that Chazama and some former Ministers in Democratic Progressive Party regime and government officials gave him a list of names to be among the 127 people who were recruited as immigration assistants
The court adjourned Chazama’s case to 26th September 2023
Manda said they shortlisted 12 000 people for the interviews out of the 36000 applicants
But Chazama threatened Manda hence transferred to Ministry of education
