UTM President Elected Unopposed

UTM president Dr Saulos Chilima and other 13 senior officials have been elected unopposed.

They have been elected during UTM convention in Lilongwe on 17 December, 2018.

Some of the senior officials who have been elected without competitors are Patricia Kaliati as secretary general, Joseph Chidanti Malunga as publicity secretary and Shanil Dzimbiri director of women.

The election has been presided over by Malawi Electoral Commission.

Speaking during the convention chairperson of UTM Noel Masangwi urged the delegates to vote wisely.

Masangwi who has not been elected in any position said “you should elect people who will lead the party and the country.”

President of UTP is competing for treasurer general though reports indicated on Friday last week that the party had ditched UTM.

UTM is not voting for regional vice presidents.

However, Calista Mutharika the former first lady who is one of the senior members of UTM is not contesting in any position.
