UDF to contest alone in Elections
Newly elected President of United Democratic Front UDF has said the party will contest alone in 2025 general elections
In his acceptance speech at UDF convention in Blantyre Atupele Muluzi says is ready to change things in the country
He promised to hold vibrant campaign across the country as compared to the ones he held in previous polls.
In his speech patron UDF Dr Bakili Muluzi said party should not promote hatred and avoid blame game
Muluzi has refuted allegations that chairperson of the organizing committee Aisha Mambo Adams and former president of UDF Lilian Patel agreed to disturb the convention
He stressed that multiparty democracy does not promote discriminate other groups but unity
Muluzi reiterated that it is the habit of UDF to invite other political parties to its convention
On her part chairperson of the convention Aisha Mambo Adams advised those to be elected at the convention to find solutions to challenges facing Malawians
Adams said UDF will win next year’s elections and thanked other political parties for attending the convention
Delegates at the two day UDF elective convention have elected new office bearers who will run the affairs of the party for the next five years.
Speaking during closure of the convention, newly elected president Atupere Muluzi says is confident that the new executive committee will work towards strengthening the party.
“The party will look for ways to ensure that It has leaders from all the regions of the country,” Muluzi
However, he has indicated that the party has not closed all doors for possible alliances with other political parties in the fourth coming 2025 general election.
Muluzi has thanked the delegates for holding a successful convention and is hopeful that the party will win 2025 elections.
The 1000 delegates have among others elected Rahim Elias as deputy president, Victoria Mponela second deputy party president, Generino Lemani secretary general, Yusuf Mwawa director political affairs, Esther Jolobala, director of campaign, Abu-Bakr M’baya, national organizing secretary, Yusuf Sambo director of elections and Aisha Mambo director of women affairs
The convention was held under the theme: Towards Unity, Renewal Social Economic Transformation
