Two Presidential Candidates Submit Nomination Papers In Malawi
Two presidential candidates have submitted their nomination papers to Malawi Electoral Commission to contest on May 21 2019 tripartite elections in Malawi.
They are President of Malawi Congress Party Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Professor John Chisi of Umodzi Party.
Speaking after the signing ceremony at COMESA Hall in Blantyre Chakwera vowed to uphold the code of conduct during elections period.
He asked Malawians to vote for him if the country is to be transformed.
Among others he promised to boost agriculture, invest in mining and tourism, youth employment as well as infrastructure development.
Receiving the nomination form chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission Justice Dr Jane Ansah commended Chakwera for deciding to take part in the presidential race.
Ansah asked Dr Chakwera to observe code of conduct for elections and educate his supporters on the same.
She asked the MCP candidate to conduct its issue based campaign and desist from political violence.
Ansah reiterated the commission commitment towards free, fair and credible elections.
Finally, she said will announce the presidential candidates seven days after the presentation period ends.
Speaking earlier secretary general of MCP Aizenohowa Mkaka said the coming in of a lot of people to grace the occasion proves that MCP is ready to take over the country leadership.
Chakwera was accompanied by his vice Muhammad Sidik Mia, officials and supporters of MCP as well as president of Freedom party Khumbo Kachali.
