Standard 8 Pupils drown in Dam

Two pupils who were in standard 8 at Matindi Primary School Harrison Mazimbo 15 and Samson Bwanali 16 have drowned in Namwiri Community Dam in Chileka at Mponda Village

It has been established that the two who are now deceased together with their colleagues went to Namwiri Community Dam to swim

Harrison Mazimbo and other pupils jumped into the river and dived deep into river but failed to swim back to the edge of the river

After noting that Harrison had taken time in the water Samson Bwanali dived into the river with the intent to rescue his friend

He managed to hook him on his back but he was powerless and failed to make it out of the river

Their friends informed nearby authorities who later notified Lunzu police unit officers who rushed to scene

After an hour of searching the two pupils their bodies were found under the water and were taken to Mlambe Mission Hospital

Postmortem revealed that death was due to suffocation secondary to drowning

Mazimbo from Mponda Village while Bwanali from Maleule village both from Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre

Chileka police station is appealing to all guardians and teachers to monitor and track movements of their children and students respectively to avoid
