South Korean Drowns In Lake Malawi

South Korean lady has drowned in Lake Malawi in Nkhata-Bay district.

Public relations officer for Nkhatabay police station Kondwani James said Miss. Hye Young Park drowned at Mayoka Village Lodge on Sunday.

James said Park came to Malawi for holiday and in the morning of 16th December she handed over her luggage to Mrs Ann Wiggil for safe keeping as she wanted to have a swim.

“Miss Park then went into the lake for swimming but was found submerging at the deep area of the lake site by a certain diver,” said James.

The diver called for help from people who were on the shore to remove the body though it was too late to save her life.

“Police took the body to Nkhata-Bay District Hospital where death was confirmed. However, postmortem was not conducted, waiting for other authorities,” James added.

Meanwhile, police in the district are advising the general public not to swim whilst drunk as this will help to avoid preventable deaths.
