SIM card registration suspension lifted
Government has lifted the suspension of implementation of sim card registration.
Minister of information and communications technology Nicholus Dausi says appropriate measures have been taken to address concerns the general public expressed.
“The measures include extension of the period beyond the deadline of March 31, recruiting appropriate number of agents, widely informing the public about places and times of registration, allowing the physically challenged to register through next kin or third party and allowing Malawians without national IDs to use voter certificate, passport and drivers licence until 31st December 2018,” explained Dausi.
He says a robust awareness campaign will continue to assist in ensuring a smooth registration exercise.
Daudi further says the new communications act creates the need for registration of generic numbers and sim cards.
