Shire Valley Transformation farmers to begin irrigation in June
Project coordinator of Shire Valley Transformation SVT Stanley Khaira says they expect the farmers to begin irrigation farming in June next year
Khaira says there are two cooperatives that consist of 800 farmers who will be doing farming to realize food security in the country
He says the canal will be fully operational in the next 14 years and hopeful that water will start flowing to the first two farms around May next year.
Principle Secretary responsible for irrigation in Ministry Agriculture, Geoffrey Mamba, said the project requires additional 150 million Dollars funding to repair some structures at the intake that were damaged by cyclone Ana.
Representative for Kambadwe cooperative Samson Beyadi said shire valley transformation will be very beneficial to them as they expect to improve food security, increase income and job creation
Beyadi pleaded with government to build office for services of the cooperative.
