Senior Chief Chowe Cautions Incest Perpetrators

Senior Chief Chowe of Mangochi district has strongly condemned parents who rape their children saying it is not only sinful but also a violation of the country’s laws.

The chief said this at Makoliga village in his area during an awareness campaign on early marriages and gender based violence organized by the Chowe Net Work through Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre.

Sultan Chowe said community leaders in the district have established by laws aimed at curbing the malpractice.

He therefore stressed that anyone found indulging in incest will be severely punished.

In his comments chair person for Chowe Network Chida Kuseli said they organized the campaign in order to reduce cases of school dropout, early child marriages and gender based violence by 2020.

Mangochi district is one the district with high illiteracy rate in the country.
