Save the Children appeals for positive child reporting

Save the Children Malawi has asked the media to report positively on matters concerning children.

Country Director for Tina Yu made the call in Lilongwe during a two – day media training on child rights reporting.

“Children across the world continue facing several challenges hence the need to protect and promote their well being,” said Yu.

Speaking to radio Islam, chairperson for Media Advocates for Advancement of Child Rights MAACR Mallick Mnela said the training was organized after noting increased negative reporting on issues about children.

“Research we conducted indicated that most media houses only cover children from a negative perspective, a worrisome development in as far as matters concerning child rights promotion is concerned,” explained Mnela.

Over 25 journalists from different media houses across the country attended the training which has been funded by Save the Children.
