RAILA, MWO plant trees in Blantyre and Lilongwe
Radio Islam listeners association Lilongwe chapter has asked people in the district to take an active role in taking care of environment
Treasurer for Lilongwe Radio Islam Listeners Association Maryam Fanuel made the call during the tree planting exercise which took place at Kalambo Masjid in the district
Fanuel said they decided to take the exercise to the area after observing that it has few trees
She therefore asked people in the area to be on the fore front in taking care of the trees so that they survive
“The Association will take the same exercise to other areas where they think will benefit the public,” Fanuel
Reacting to the exercise, Village Headman Kalambo thanked the association for the good gesture shown in his area
Kalambo said trees are very important in conserving the environment hence the support is needed
“We assure the Association that the trees will be safe and survive as his subjects will be looking after them,” Village headman Kalambo
The Village headman further appealed to other organizations and well-wishers to come and plant more trees in the area
Meanwhile, Muslim Women Organization MWO has urged women in Malawi to take a leading role in restoring the environment.
The remark comes a day after MWO Blantyre chapter planted trees at Gada farm that belongs to Muslim Association of Malawi and managed by Blantyre Islamic Mission in Chadzunda.
Speaking to radio Islam, vice chair lady for MWO Blantyre chapter sister Loni Laja said “women in Malawi are directly affected by effects of climate change such as cyclone Ana, hence the need for them to plant more trees to abate the effects.”
Sister Laja also said MWO conducts this initiative annually, thanks to well-wishers who donate seedlings to the Muslim women organization.
