President Condemns Political Violence
President Professor Peter Mutharika has condemned political violence which is being perpetrated with the intention of stirring disorder as the country approaches tripartite elections.
In a press statement made available to Radio Islam Mutharika says he will not tolerate any violence.
The president said more worrying is that such violence has been targeted at women.
“As champion of HEFORSHE campaign I will not tolerate any acts to humiliate women on political space and creating politics of anarchy,” Mutharika said
He also reiterated his condemnation of continued violence against people with albinism.
The president has urged all Malawians to value life of everybody.
Mutharika therefore directs all security forces to protect people with albinism.
“Malawi Police Service should act within dictates of law on any element that is promoting violence,” directed Mutharika
The president also appeals to all political leaders to be responsible, refrain from using inflammatory language and demonstrate sound leadership by disciplining their followers who perpetrate violence on political opponents.
Mutharika urges religious leaders to sensitize the society because violence is primarily a moral problem before becoming a political problem.
