Police has arrested two people in connection to the assault of UTM members in Mangochi district.

Spokesperson of Malawi Police Service James Kadadzera says the suspects are Rajab Assan aged 38 and Adam Masitala 28 of Mtagaluka Village TA Chowe.

Kadadzera says other suspects will be arrested soon as investigations are underway.

He has advised political parties to promote tolerance and respect one another for the elections to be credible.

“Police is appealing to communities to tip its officers if they experience such assault,” Kadadzera said.

He says police is vigilant to apprehend perpetrators of political violence regardless of political party affiliation for tripartite elections to be free and fair.
