Police Arrests Notorious Criminals In Zomba
Police in Zomba has arrested four notorious criminals for allegedly murdering a watchman and breaking into tip-top shop.
The suspects Brian Katuma 25, Aristariko Chikoko 52, Snoden Monjeza 29 and Filosi Tobias 42 invaded Tip-top shop during the night of 30th to 31st July 2019 where they murdered a 54 year old watchman Godfrey Chinthenga.
According to eastern region criminal investigations officer superintendent Chrissy Mwale the criminals who were five in number broke into the shop by cutting the roof.
Mwale said they were armed with burglar bars and other breaking apparatus and struggled with the deceased before killing him.
“In the course of the struggle one of the watchmen who was guarding a nearby shop alerted his boss who called the police and they arrested Katuma as he was trying to escape,” he said
His arrest led to the arrest of three others Chikoko, Monjeza and Tobias.
After stock taking nothing was stolen from the shop as police had arrived in time.
“Katuma and Monjeza come from Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba, Chikoko and Failos from Dedza and Ntcheu districts respectively while the deceased Godfrey Chinthenga was from Sonkho village TA Chikowi in Zomba,” Mwale adds
Meanwhile police in the region is assuring the public of their security and urges them to have police contact numbers for easy communication when in danger.
