PAC Tells Chakwera MCP On Exit Stage

Public Affairs Committee PAC has told President Lazarus Chakwera that the general political atmosphere puts his Malawi Congress Party MCP on the exit stage unless something spectacular emerges

This has been said in a statement which PAC presented to Chakwera during their meeting at Kamuzu Palace on Monday 13th January 2025

The committee says Chakwera’s failures are massive therefore calling on him to act on issues of national importance before the public rises against him

The quasi-religious body says even in his strongholds the doubt on his winning is loud and clear therefore hopping that in the remaining months he can always turn around the perception

Reading the statement Chairperson of PAC Dr Patrick Thawale says the committee is disappointed with the leadership style the country faces

It says the leadership’s inaction on several revelations of alleged corrupt practices erodes the integrity of Chakwera’s highest office

PAC stressed that the president’s words have not matched his actions on issues of corruption and alleged abuse of funds

It emphasizes that international trips have created an impression that there has been a deliberate disregard on welfare of Malawians

Public Affairs Committee believes that Chakwera has not lived to public expectation as demonstrated by a voice of cry from the masses, rendering his austerity measures futile

On civil service leadership gap PAC says office of president is dysfunctional and demotivating the civil service let along the entire public service

On 2025 elections the quasi religious body is disappointed to note that Malawi Congress Party MCP is becoming another instrument for oppression

The committee has cited the action to stifle demonstration organised by the opposition saying it is primitive act in a democratic Malawi, so too does not condone stoning of presidential motorcades

PAC says practicing good governance at Chakwera’s level and within MCP will be a conflict prevention tool in the forthcoming elections

It has pointed out that if government agencies fail to meet public expectations it is likely that elections results may be disputed even if Chakwera genuinely wins

PAC has also mentioned several arrests of prominent figures recently which has not yielded results hence urging government to ensure such acts are not aimed at victimizing those who hold opposing views

It says in the electoral process caution has to be exercised so that certain acts do not reflect badly on the president

The religious leaders have emphasized that the perception that the regime is corrupt remains still stands, most civil servants are frustrated remains a fact, fuel crisis continues is a reality.

PAC’s observation is that action oriented leadership in Chakwera has lacked and the general view is that there has been failed leadership tainted with hypocrisy.
