Opposition political parties writes MEC on Elections processes
Four opposition political parties have written Malawi Electoral Commission and United Nations Resident Coordinator on their dissatisfaction with how the electoral body is handling elections processes.
In a letter signed by Alliance for Democracy AFORD, Democratic Progressive Party DPP, United Democratic Front UDF and UTM have singled out the use of Election Management Devices EMDs in the just ended pilot voter registration exercise.
The four political parties have cited the absence of an independent ICT auditor like was the case in 2020 fresh presidential election hence recommending UNDP to recruit one.
On vote transmission the parties have rejected electronic transportation and have since recommended a manual system as well as the need for data backup.
Meanwhile, speaking to media, during the opening of the two day review meeting of the exercise, MEC chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, says they welcome constructive feedback as they work towards addressing collaboratively with all stakeholders.
Mtalimanja admitted to have started receiving feedback of its pilot voter registration exercise.
She says will ensure transparency and inclusive processes hence asking the public against circulation of fake electoral news.
