Only 3000 out of 30,000 caregivers receive salaries in Zomba

Department of Social Welfare in Zomba says only 3000 out of 30,000 caregivers are getting their monthly payment

This was noted during the 14 day training of 22 caregivers from Traditional Authority Mlumbe in the district

Opening the workshop Zomba district social welfare chief executive officer Paul Simfukwe says failure to pay monthly payments to caregivers is affecting performance of Early Childhood Development ECD trainers

Simfukwe said ECDs are perfect for nurturing the success of young children

therefore urged the participants to use the knowledge to help children reach their full potential

Director of One Voice CBO Shadreck Tambala said the training is critical in provision of quality education to students and care services

One of the participants Essime Muonjeza has said it was difficult to provide quality care without proper guidance and knowledge

Muonjeza said the training will improve service delivery and appealed to government to put in place sustainable salary structures for care givers

One Voice Community Organisation organised the training with funding from CRECOM
