MPS tightens security at elections case ruling
Malawi Police Service MPS says there will be a security operation on Monday 3rd February in and around Lilongwe High Court to facilitate smooth delivery of judgment by the constitutional court on presidential elections case.
In a press release public relations officer of the Service senior Superintendent James Kadadzera has advised all motorists and pedestrians to avoid the High court Area and three roads which will be closed from 6 o’clock in the morning to 6 o’clock in the evening
“The roads are Likuni round about to Lilongwe Town Hall Round About, Lilongwe hotel to Lilongwe gold club and Mtunthama road past high court to Lilongwe Golf Club,” Kadadzera says
MPS further informs all members of the public who have been allowed to attend the court session and accredited by the registrar of High court to access the court through Lilongwe district commissioner’s office entrance.
Kadadzera says access to the court premises will only be on production of a valid identification document in combination with the gate pass issued by the high court.
He has urged all other members of the public to follow the proceedings from their homes or offices.
Meanwhile, Human Rights Defenders Coalition HRDC and Public Affairs committee PAC have asked Malawians to respect the ruling
Speaking during a press briefing chairperson of PAC Monsignor Dr Patrick Thawale called on leaders to maintain their commitment made during dialogue meetings that they would uphold rule of law.
Thawale called upon Malawi police to ensure that peace and tranquility prevails during and after the ruling.
Speaking to reporters HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo asked Malawians to listen to the ruling and not rely on social media analysis and avoid indulging in any form of violence
Mtambo said those who will not be satisfied with the ruling should appeal in a right and peaceful way
