Ministry of Mining Holds Public Discussions On Mines

Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining says is conducting public discussions on mines and metal regulations to review and improve safety in the mining sector.

Speaking at a two days public conference held in Blantyre, Inspector of Mines in the department of mines, Mphatso Kapokosa, said the meeting will help to collect views from all stakeholders which will be incorporated in the new regulations.

Kapokosa said the project is aimed at ensuring safe working places to reduce various occupational diseases such tuberculosis.

He added that the mines safety regulations will in one way bring in more comprehensive and clear laws that are in line with the international standards.

Kapokosa however assured participants that all views and suggestions will be taken into boards in the draft.

The initiative is under Southern Africa Tuberculosis and Health System Support Program funded by World Bank.
