MHRC releases human rights abuses reports
Malawi Human Rights Commission MHRC has urged law enforcers to act swiftly on the three reports it has released on human rights abuses.
Last week MHRC released the reports in connection to the 8th October violence in Nsundwe, M’bwatalika and Mpingu in Lilongwe.
The reports are about the killing of a police by demonstrators, vandalism of property and raping of women by the police.
In an interview, MHRC commissioner, Ombudsman Martha Chizuma said “Malawi police service must institute criminal investigation and prosecute all officers suspected to have violated human rights on the day.”
Chizuma also asked the ministry of gender to enlist victims of rape on the social cash transfer program saying most of them are vulnerable.
She assured the victims that MHRC will follow up the matter for justice to prevail by checking with the police every two months on the progress.
