MESN Calls For Patience In Elections

As official campaigning period has ended today, the Malawi Electoral Support Network (MESN) has called on all electoral stakeholders to hold their patience and remain peaceful during the elections period.

The call was made in a press statement made available to Radio Islam in which it has pleaded with all candidates, parties and their supporters to maintain peace and order during the period.

The statement signed by MESN Chairperson Steve Duwa, has also advised candidates and parties to pursue the legal avenues provided if they have any grievances with the election processes or results.

“MESN encourages all Malawians who are registered to go to their respective polling stations and exercise their constitutional right to vote,” Duwa said

However, MESN has urged the security forces to conduct themselves in a strictly non-partisan manner and ensure a peaceful environment in which all Malawians feel free to vote.

In a statement Duwa has also called upon the MEC to be as transparent and consultative on Election Day and during the announcement of results.

MESN says as one way of promoting credible results, will also institute a parallel vote tabulation methodology to provide the most accurate and timely information on the conduct of voting and counting.
