MEC Threatens To Drag MCP To Court
Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has called upon Malawi Congress Party MCP to withdraw statement that its lawyers and staff go to councils to meet presiding officers to collect information for filing in defence of its action as demanded by presidential elections court case.
In a statement MEC Chief Elections Officer Sam Alufandika said if it does not withdraw unconditionally the commission will make application in court for redress.
Alufandika says “MCP shall be held accountable for any loss of life of MEC staff or lawyers or damage or loss of property.”
He has asked the general public to verify matters before issuing careless statements that have potential for dangerous repercussions in the country.
In a statement MCP alleges that MEC staff are collecting signatures for clandestine results sheets in exchange of money.
