MEC Stops Collecting Witness Statements

Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has stopped collecting witness statements from concerned individuals in the ongoing electoral case.

The announcement comes few days after MEC demanded Malawi Congress Party to withdraw its statements that its lawyers and staff were forcing presiding officers to sign new forms.

MEC Director of Communications Sangwani Mwafulirwa said the commission has halted the process due to security concerns.

However, Mwafulirwa added that it’s unfortunate that people who demanded for justice in the electoral case have been on the forefront obstructing the same.

MEC threatened to drag to court MCP if it did not withdraw the statement.

The commission told the party that it would be held accountable if its lawyers and staff lose lives or property
