MEC Defers Ras Chikomeni Nomination Papers
Malawi Electoral Commission MEC has deferred nomination papers of Independent presidential candidate Ras Chikomeni David Chirwa.
Speaking in COMESA Hall MEC chairperson Justice Dr Jane Ansah said Chirwa failed to pay a fee of two million kwacha and meet the required signatures in all districts.
However, Ansah has given Chirwa two days to fulfill the requirements if he wants to contest in presidential elections.
Speaking to reporters Chirwa said was aware of the requirements but failed to fulfill them because is poor.
Chirwa said he presented the nomination papers since it is his right as stipulated in the constitution.
He emphasized that there is need to formulate independents act as there is only political parties act.
In his remarks Ras Nimrod said they will rectify the anomalies adding they were not aware that the fees had not been paid
In the morning UTM presidential candidate Dr Saulos Chilima with his running mate Michael Usi commonly known as Manganya presented his nomination paper.
Speaking to reporters after the presentation of the papers Chilima said the youthful combination has come to transform Malawi.

Commenting, Chancellor College based political analyst Enerst Thindwa said the decision by Chilima to pick Usi as his running mate is not surprising.
Thindwa also said the move might be a way of attracting votes from the youth and Lomwe belt where DPP is a stronghold.
