MEC appeals High court re-run ruling

Malawi electoral commission MEC has appealed to Supreme Court against High court’s ruling that it should hold rerun in Mangochi West Constituency.

Media and Public relations officer for MEC Sangwani Mwafulirwa says they want the court to respect the decision of the commission.

Mwafulirwa then said the commission will meet to discuss the date when the by-elections will be held in Lilongwe South constituency.

“The commission will also hold the by-elections in Balaka ward after the commissioners meeting,” Mwafulirwa says

The High court nullified the results of parliamentary elections in Mangochi West constituency which were won by DPP candidate.

An independent candidate applied to high court to nullify the results claiming he won with a difference of one vote.
