Measles Outbreak in Mangochi
Measles outbreak has been reported in Mangochi district at Mkuchinga Jwambone Health centre in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe
This has been announced by Ministry of health through its secretary Dr Samson Mndolo
Dr Mndolo says on 29th August Mangochi district health office was alerted on a cluster of suspected measles cases in a village under Mkuchinga Jwambone Health centre
He says 6 samples were collected for laboratory investigation at Kamuzu Central Hospital and 3 samples were confirmed positive for measles on 9th September
The ages of the affected people range from 7 months, five years and 7 years.
Measles is a highly infectious disease characterized by rash fever running nose and at lease cough or red eyes and if untreated can cause serious complications
The Ministry of health is advising the community not to panic as the situation is under control but advises the public to report suspected cases.
