Measles Outbreak In Lilongwe
Measles outbreak has been confirmed in Area 36 (zamkutu along by-pass road, Lilongwe.
The outbreak has affected several villages in the area with a total of 32 suspected measles cases recorded as of 3rd November
According to ministry of health blood samples from 9 suspected cases were tested and all were confirmed positive for measles
Secretary for health Dr Samson Mndolo says most of the affected individuals are children aged under 15 years many of whom had not received recommended measles vaccination because of religious and cultural beliefs
In response to the outbreak declaration the ministry has embarked on supplementary vaccination campaign to reach all children in all affected areas
The ministry encourages isolation and basic hygiene to prevent further spread of the disease
