Mangochi, Machinga release 2019 Crime reports
Mangochi and Machinga police stations have registered crime increase and decrease respectively in the just ended year
According to 2019 annual report Mangochi police station has registered 11 percent increase in crime management.
The station research and planning officer sub inspector Lesten Chimimba says 2,017 criminal cases were registered compared to 1,812 cases in 2018.
Chimimba adds 159 road accidents were recorded in 2019 compared to 223 in 2018 depicting 29 percent decrease.
“11 murder cases were registered in 2019 compared to five cases in 2018 but no armed robbery case was registered last year and two cases in the previous year,” says Chimimba
He cited communities taking the law into their hands, immigration, lack of parental care, use of un-road worthy and public resistance to abide by road rules and regulations as some of the contributing factors.
Meanwhile, police in Mangochi is promising the communities that it will engage an extra gear in delivering services in the year 2020 to make sure that peace prevails in the tourist district.
In a related development, Machinga police station has reduced crime cases by 0.2 percent.
According to research and planning officer inspector Damiano Palumo the station registered 1294 cases in 2018 but 1292 in 2019.
“The increase in the crimes is due to awareness campaigns which are conducted in rural areas as this has made the community to realize importance of reporting them,” Palumo
Police in Machinga is assuring the community of maximum security.
