Man Arrested Over Plot To Kill Law Police Officer
An infamous fugitive who masterminded a plan to kill a police officer has been arrested as he was trying to escape to Salima from Dedza.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Dedza Police sergeant Cassim Manda has identified the suspect as Levi Mwandilongo 36 of Kafulama village TA Kachindamoto in Dedza district.
Mwandilongo fled the district soon after he completed masterminding the plan to kill sub inspector Malonda Banda a police offier based at Dedza police station seconded to Malawi Revenue Authority MRA Dedza border.
“Banda was assigned to escort a vehicle belonging to Mwandilongo that was impounded by the authority for tax evasion. On their way to Dedza MRA office the police officer was overpowered and kicked out of the vehicle as it was in motion,” explained Manda
His fellow officer Sergeant Simon who was assigned to provide security to MRA officials were surprised after noticing that Banda was taking long to arrive.
“Banda was only found unconscious by some road users and was taken to Dedza district hospital where he was later referred to Kamuzu central hospital where he took months before discharged,”added Manda
Police started hunting for the culprit who was on the run since February and was arrested on Sunday 7th July.
The suspect has since been sent to Ntcheu police station where the case occurred at Masasa.
