MAM donates maize to storm victims

Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has reached out to over 400 families affected by wind storm in Traditional Authority Sitola in Machinga district with bags of maize.

The area was affected by heavy winds which destroyed many houses and domestic utensils including live stocks and food.

Speaking after he visited the families, National Chairman of MAM, Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad, said he was very concerned when he learned about the tragedy.

Sheikh Muhammad said it is very unfortunate that this has happened when many Malawians have no food to feed their families.

“This is why I pleaded with donors to come and assist. Although the bags of maize will not be adequate they will in one way ease the situation,” MAM chair explained

Sheikh Muhammad has assured the families that with donor support, MAM will continue assisting them with various relief items until the next harvesting season.

On sanitation, he promised to drill boreholes in the affected villages.

Speaking earlier, Village Headman Sumani commended MAM for the timely assistance because people in the area are depending on boiled mangoes as the daily meal.

“I appeal to other well wishers to come and assist as the situation is becoming worse day by day and 17 villages were affected by the storm,” chief Sumani said

The donation was initiated with financial support from Kuwait Horrizons Charity Society.
