Islamic Centre Opened In Kasungu

Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has asked district committee members to mobilize Muslims to support Pulumutsani Quran House campaign.

National Chairman for MAM Sheikh Idrissa Muhammad made the appeal when he officially opened an Islamic centre constructed at Kaziteme village Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu district.

Sheikh Muhammad said Muslims in the country are capable of rescuing the plot but the problem is that they don’t understand what actually happened.

“It is of this view that I took time to explain to people who gathered at the function on Pulumutsani Quran House Campaign,” MAM Chair said.

He explained that the issue was inherited from the previous leadership way back in 1994 when they engaged a private company to design MAM offices in Blantyre.

Sheikh Muhammad said the then officials failed to pay the company and the money was accumulated to K318 million but was later reduced to K118 million after engaging the court.

“From K118 million, MAM has paid back K32 million while Pulumutsani Quran House initiative has collected K35 million hence there is need to enhance the campaign and get rid of the outstanding balance,” he explained

The national Chairman therefore appealed to all district chairmen to extend the message to all Muslims in the country so that they should generously contribute towards the initiative.

He said Malawians have adequate resources to rescue the plot from the ill-minded people only that they need a diplomatic approach to understand the situation.

Speaking earlier, MAM Regional Chairman for the centre, Ibrahim Machokwani, commended MAM leadership for constructing the centre in the rural area.

“The centre is a milestone as Kasungu is one of the districts laging behind in as far as Islam is concerned,” expressed Machokwani

He said with the centre, parents will now be able to send their children to madrassah and understand their religion at the earliest stage.

Among others MAM has constructed a masjid, two blocks of four classrooms, one hostel block, one administration block and a borehole.

The project was initiated with financial support from the United Arab Emirates Aid through Dubai Charity Association.
