Malawi Tanzania Join Hands in Energy Development Programs

Malawian and Tanzanian delegates at energy meeting in Dar e salaam have said African countries have potential of boosting their economy if they work together in exploring ways of promoting the sector.

This was disclosed during official opening of the three days Malawi Tanzania Intergovernmental Meeting on the Energy Sector.

The two countries’ high level delegation meeting will lead to the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at sharing resources through two projects of Songwe Dam and Tanzania Malawi Interconnector.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Energy, Felchesmi Mramba said African countries need to corroborate in addressing their critical challenges including energy sector.

Mramba said the meeting is expected to come up with policies that will see two countries enhancing their cordial relationships through development programs.

On his part, Malawi’s Acting Director of Energy in Ministry of Energy, Joseph Kalowekamo said Malawi is considering alternative sources of energy to Shire River dependent hydro energy which is greatly affected by effects of climate change.

Ministers of Energy from both countries are expected to preside over the signing ceremony of the MoU.
