Malawi Women March In Support Of MEC Chair
Political parties and civil society organizations have been advised to start respecting the right and dignity of women.
Minister of Gender, children, disability and social welfare Mary Navicha made the appeal at the end of a solidarity walk held in Blantyre.
Speaking after presenting a petition to chief executive officer of Blantyre city council Navicha said women are tired of harassment and abuses they are going through.
“I decided to join the march to show the women are fed up with the torture which chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission MEC Justice Dr Jane Ansah is facing,” Navicha said
She added that the march should send a clear message to ill-minded men who take women as a second class.
Commenting on the march Chairperson of Forum for Concerned women Seodi White said she is satisfied with the turn up.
White said “the message to the country is that Ansah is not going to resign.”
The march started at old Town hall through Chipembere Highway to Blantyre city council offices.
