Malawi starts Polio vaccination campaign
Administration of oral polio vaccine through the mass immunization exercise has commenced today
This follows the launch by the minister of health Khumbidze Kandodo Chiponda yesterday at Chileka Secondary school in Lilongwe.
According to Chiponda, the campaign is targeting 2.9 million under five children.
Chiponda disclosed that the country received 6.8 million doses of polio vaccine.
She said experts from the global polio eradication initiative are still in the country to support with expertise and finances in the fight against the disease.
“Malawi has already conducted a risk assessment of the situation with support from partners adding is working closely with neighbouring countries,” Kandodo Chiponda
She has therefore encouraged parents and guardians to ensure that their children have received the vaccine.
The country registered its first case in Lilongwe earlier this year.
