Malawi president appoints new judges
Some civil society organizations have welcomed the appointment of two judges of High Court of Malawi.
The appointment comes 10 months after Mutharika appointed some judges, two of whom died.
Reacting, Victor Mhango of centre for human rights education advice and assistance, CHREA said though the number is few, the appointment will help in delivery of justice, as the country has only 26 high court judges.
“The appointment is a good development because there are few judges in Malawi,” said Mhango.
In his remarks, Executive Director for Youth and Society Charles Kajoloweka said though the development is welcome, government is failing to allocate reasonable number of judges to Northern region despite several efforts to have the figure increased.
