Malawi President Appoints New Cabinet
President professor Peter Mutharika has appointed new cabinet ministers.
According to a press released signed by chief secretary to government Lloyd Muhara the number of Ministers and their deputies has increased from 20 to 24.
Mutharika has appointed 18 ministers and 6 deputy ministers.
“His excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, president of the Republic of Malawi, Minister of Defence, Commander-In-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force. Right Honourable Everton Herbert Chimulirenji, Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, EMinister responsible for Disaster and Relief Management and Public events,” reads the statement.
Mutharika has appointed two women Mary Thom Navicha as Minister of gender children disability and social welfare and Martha Lunji Minister of labour, skills and innovation.
The president has also appointed Joseph Mwanamveka as Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Ibrahim Salim Bagus Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Francis Kasaira Minister of Foreign Affairs and international cooperation, Kondwani Nankhumwa of agriculture, irrigation and water development and Bright Nsaka of Justice and constitutional affairs.
Mutharika has also named “Ralph Jooma of transport and public works, Symon Vuwa Kaunda of lands, housing and urban development, Ben Phiri of local government and rural development, Bintony Kutsaira Minister of Natural Resources, energy and mining, Francis Phiso of Youth, sports and culture and Dr Susuwele Banda Minister of education.”
Nicholus Dausi is Minister of Homeland security, Jappie Mhango of Health and population while Mark Botomani Minister of Information, civic education and communications technology.
“Chipiliro Mpinganjira of defence, Esther Majaza of local government, Martha Chiuluntha education, Charles Mchacha transport, grace Kwelepeta gender and Mungasulwa Mwambane Natural resources,” the statement adds.
The president also appointed Kalekeni Kaphale as attorney general and special advisors Goodall Gondwe on finance, Dr Uladi Mussa on parliamentary affairs, Grezelder Jeffrey on women affairs and Dr Chris Daza on governance.
