Magistrate commits Greenbelt Authority case to High Court

Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda has released on bail four people who are accused of fraud at Greenbelt Authority through Salima Sugar Company Limited.

They include former minister of finance Joseph Mwanamvekha, former chief secretary to President Lloyd Muhara, former chief executive officer of Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority Collins Magalasi and former secretary to treasury Cliff Chiunda

But Henry Njoloma who was the director of Greenbelt Initiative is being hunted by police

Meanwhile, Lilongwe Magistrate court has committed the case to High Court

The State is yet to make a decision on whether the case involving former company secretary for Greenbelt Jimmy Grey Kusamale should be handled by the lower court or High Court.

The suspects are facing eight counts, including conspiracy to use public office for personal advantage, obtain a government guarantee without prior Cabinet authority, two counts of making misleading statements and money laundering.
