Lawyer withdraws from Kamangira-Manda Case
Lawyer Gift Chimowa has applied to court to cease representing lawyer Alexius Kamangira on corruption case against Judge Ken Manda because of threats to his life and property
In his letter to president of Malawi Law Society Patrick Mpaka, Chimowa says security of his family has been grossly comprised as they are living in constant fear for their lives and property
According to Chimowa on 12th February the matter came for mediation before justice Mdeza at High Court in Lilongwe
He says after the conclusion of the mediation session as he was leaving court realized that was being followed to the extent that he had to avoid leaving the premises through the main gate
Chimowa later noticed that a black saloon motor vehicle was tailing him to the extent that he had to zigzag his way through the roads of Lilongwe city and only ended up shaking off the said vehicle when he entered the gates of Kamuzu Barracks
Upon reaching Blantyre on 14th February Chimowa had some meetings within the city but was still being followed by unknown men in motor vehicles to the extent that when he stopped at some place to commission some documents for a client the unknown men broke into his car and went away with his laptop, some files included of the above mentioned case file
He reported the matter to police and investigations are at a very advanced stage and the perpetrators will soon be thought to justice
