Law Safeguarding Institutions bemoan Funding
Three institutions involved in safeguarding rule of law and good governance, Malawi Legal Aid Bureau, Office of Ombudsman and Malawi Human Rights Commission have said inadequate funding cripples operations in fulfilling their mandates.
Speaking on behalf of three bodies during a media training Assistant Director of Legal Aid Bureau, Bwighane Mwenifumbo Masanjala said the institutions have various challenges but inadequate funding is common amongst them all.
Masanjala said due to serious shortage of funding, their operational costs are not covered hence impacting negatively on the operations.
Masanjala added that another common challenge is lack of human resource as the three institutions do not have their presence in districts and people have to travel long distances to access the services
Chairperson for Nyika Media Club, Feston Malekezo said the training has empowered journalists in relaying correct information regarding services which are provided by the bodies to the citizenry.
