Lack of waiting homes fuels deaths

Officials have confirmed that lack of maternal waiting homes in Karonga is said to be fueling the increase of maternal and neonatal deaths in the district.

Karonga district health officer Dr Khumbo Shumba said this during the meeting.

According to Shumba, the district registered 11 maternal deaths in the past months a development which he said is worrisome.

“Statistics indicate that Karonga is one of the districts with the highest rate of maternal and neonatal deaths,” said Shumba
