IOM In Vulnerable Migrants Repatriation

International Organization for Migration IOM has embarked on a pilot project of repatriating vulnerable migrants in four African counties.

Briefing Mangochi district executive committee Nana Ama Oppon project officer of IOM said a 36 months pilot Action on Voluntary Return and sustainable community based Reintegration project AVRR was developed following high migration along South Africa route.

Oppon said the targeted countries are Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique as they are origins of the immigrants.

“In Malawi, out of 120 returnees, 20 have already received reintegrated assistance,” Oppon disclosed

Commenting, Mangochi district principal administration officer Dominic Mwandira acknowledged illegal migration of people to South Africa.

Mwandira said the tendency exposes immigrants to various challenges hence applauding IOM for the support.
