HRDC asks Chakwera to step up presidency role
As the year 2021 ends today, Human Rights Defenders Coalition HRDC has asked President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to step up his role and function of presidency.
According to its end of year review titled Tonse Alliance’s Year of Broken Promises, signed by its executive director Gift Trapence and regional representatives, Trapence says the president has demonstrated inability to take decisive actions on matters of national interest which has made murky outlook of governance situation in Malawi.
Trapence has cited government’s failure to conduct cabinet assessment in the first six months as promised, failure to bring to book people suspected to have abused the 6.2 billion kwacha covid-19 funds, create one million jobs, make public and implement the public sector reforms and NEEF loans among others.
The HRDC executive director has since expressed hope that “government takes heed of these observation and aim to create a better and more conducive environment for all Malawians.”
