High rate of cancer prevalence among women in Chikwawa
Chikwawa District Health Office says 15 out of every 100 women are found positive to cancer every month.
This has been revealed during a cancer sensitization campaign in the district organized by Cancer Association of Malawi.
Speaking during the function in charge in obstetrics and gynecology ward at the district hospital, Dr Final Lodzani said out of the 15, 5 women come with already advanced cancers.
At this point, Lodzani said there in need to intensify cancer awareness campaign in order o reach out to a lot of women in hard to reach areas.
During the function over 50 women were given a chance to be tested of cancer of the cervix by SOS children villages Malawi.
SOS Project manager for Save my Mother, George Kasawala said they decided to embark on the project after noting that chikwawa was among the 7 districts in need of cancer screening services.
Kasawala said SOS believes that every child to grow up with the love of both parents hence the project will soon spread through-out the country.
He also said will continue working together with stakeholders in Chikwawa in order to fight the disease.
Concurring with Kasawala, National Cancer Association of Malawi chairperson Regina Njilima said they decided to conduct the campaign in Chikwawa bearing in mind the increasing numbers of women affected cervical and breast cancers lower shire.
