Government launches solar system
Ministry of natural resources, energy and mining has launched Sitolo Solar Mini-Grid System
Speaking during the launch in Mchinji district Minister responsible Binton Kuntsaira said the Solar system will change people’s lives and develop the area as power has been connected to some of the houses.
“These Mini-grids will be brought in many rural areas across the country,” Kuntsaira assured Malawians
He then called upon investors to invest in the energy for the sector to develop.
Commenting, Deputy Director in the ministry, Joseph Kalowekamo, said they will be working hand in hand with the community to ensure the solar system operates well.
In his remarks, (UNDP) portfolio Manager said “the solar Mini-grid system will promote economic transformation as people will be doing their businesses using the generated power.”
He promised to reach out to every Malawian with the clean energy so that the 2030 goal of providing energy to all can be achieved.
On his part, Senior Chief Mlonyeni of Mchinji district said the Solar Mini-grid system will change people’s lives hence pledging to take care of it.
Phase 1 of Sitolo solar mini-grid System is benefiting 150 households and the second phase will benefit 1000 households.
The Sitolo solar Mini-grid system has been installed with financial support of 1.2 Million US Dollars.
