Government launches national rice development strategy

Minister of agriculture has said newly launched 2024 to 2030 national rice development strategy 2 will contribute to national food security, economic growth and development

Speaking during the launch Sam Kawale said investing in rice production will increase productivity, food and income at household as well as national level

Kawale said Malawi’s Kilombero Rice has made a name internationally hence the need to take advantage by increasing production for exports while adhering to agreed food safety standards

In his remarks Japanese International Corporation Agency JICA Chief representative for Malawi Kazuhiro Tambara said rice has potential of generating foreign currency to Malawi especially local varieties
