Government Challenges Public Relations Officers on Information Dissemination

Public relations officers in the Civil Service have been challenged to be proactive in disseminating information about government development for the general public to make informed decisions.

Minister of Information and Communication Technology Henry Musa was speaking during official opening of public relations officers retreat in Mangochi district.

Mussa said in-activeness of the officers contributes to negative stories about government from its opponents.

“There is need to empower them in order to be resourceful when exercising their duties,” Mussa said

Commenting, Herbart Chandilanga representative of president of Public Relations Society of Malawi said the meeting was organised to look at challenges that affect their duties.

Chandilanga said Public relations officers face numerous challenges which contribute to their in-activeness.

He further said “the feedback from government that Public relations officers are not performing well is very crucial as there is a room for improvement.”
