Government bans sale of food on city streets
In a bid to curb the spread of cholera in Lilongwe, the city council has banned the sale of ready to eat foodstuffs on the streets.
Public relations officer for Lilongwe city council Tamara Chafunya said have partnered with the health office in the enforcement of the ban.
Chafunya said it will remain in force until health authorities declare the city cholera free.
“The council advises residents and visitors to observe hygiene practices,” said Chafunya.
Weeks ago Blantyre city council also banned the sale of ready to eat food stuffs on the streets.
However, some Malawians are still selling the food.
