Gift of the Givers Foundation distributes Goats to Muslims
As a way of empowering Muslim communities through business and farming Gift of the Givers Foundation has distributed 217 goats to 48 Muslim beneficiaries in Machinga.
Speaking to radio Islam after distributing the goats Horace Pyam’dziko who is an agriculture officer at Gift of Givers Foundation said the project is part of zakat distribution initiative where poor Muslims are reached out with assistance to change their economic status.
Pyam’dziko said instead of giving out money the organisation decided to implement business and goats farming project with 19.5 million kwacha zakat fund which was used to buy goats and train beneficiaries to maximize the profits.
Pyam’dziko also said “25 beneficiaries were given one male goat and 4 female goats while 23 people were given 4 female goats each at Nawanga, Saidi Mzungu and Mgambo villages.”
Speaking on behalf of the 48 beneficiaries, Squire Lali from Nawanga village said the goat farming will alleviate poverty in his family.
The 71 years old Lali who has 5 children said is optimistic that money released from goat farming will be used in educating his children and shaping their future.
