Elections case judgment 3 February

Constitutional court has announced that it will deliver judgment of presidential elections case on 3rd February 2020.

Five judges Healey Potani, Ivy Kamanga, Dingiswayo Madise, Mike Tembo and Redson Kapindu will present the ruling from 9 o’clock in the morning at Lilongwe High court.

Registrar of the supreme court of Appeal and High court Agness Patemba has confirmed saying in the interest of public order and security during the delivery of the judgment access to the court premises will be restricted to only those individuals who will be in possession of Access and state security personnel will strictly enforce this requirement.

“Presence of the public within 150 metres from the perimeter fence of the court premises will not be allowed,” adds Patemba

She says as was the case with the hearing of the matter accredited public media will be allowed to broadcast live the pronouncement of the judgment.

Meanwhile, secretary general of MCP Eisehower Mkaka has said the party is ready for the judgment and will respect it.

However, Efforts to talk to UTM publicity secretary proved futile as his phone was not answered.

Radio Islam also tried to hear from DPP spokesperson Nicolus Dausi but refused to comment and told our reporter to speak to lawyers of the party.

The constitutional court was expected to deliver the ruling within 45 days after the judges finished hearing the case on 20 December, 2020.

Presidents of UTM Dr Saulos Claus Chilima and MCP Dr Lazarus Chakwera applied to the court to nullify results of presidential elections because of irregularities.

President Professor Peter Mutharika and Malawi Electoral Commission are respondents in the case
